About Tri Card Poker

Tri Card Poker strips poker down to three cards instead of five. You start by placing an Ante bet. The dealer gives you and them three cards each. You look at your cards and decide: fold and lose your Ante, or play by matching your Ante with a Play bet. Next, both hands reveal. The dealer needs a Queen high or better to even be in the game. If the dealer doesn't qualify, you keep your Ante and your Play bet wins equal money. If the dealer qualifies, whoever has the better three-card poker hand wins both bets. The game moves fast because there are fewer cards and fewer decisions. Some tables let you make side bets on your hand alone, which pay out based on whether you hit a pair or straight.

Frequently Asked Questions

What hand rankings does Tri Card Poker use?

Tri Card Poker follows standard three-card poker hand rankings, with high card ranking lowest and straight flush ranking highest. All other hands fall between these two extremes in order of traditional poker value.

What does the dealer need to qualify in Tri Card Poker?

The dealer must have a Queen or better to qualify. If the dealer fails to meet this requirement, the outcome of the hand changes significantly for the player.

How does the Pair Plus side bet work in Tri Card Poker?

The Pair Plus bet is optional and bases payouts entirely on the player's three-card hand, with no regard to the dealer's cards. Players can use this bet independently of their Ante and Play bets.

What is the bet structure in Tri Card Poker?

Players place an Ante bet first, then receive three cards face-down. After evaluating their hand, players either fold or place a Play bet equal to their Ante amount to continue. Winning hands receive even-money payouts.

How does Tri Card Poker differ from other poker games at the table?

Tri Card Poker features player-versus-dealer competition rather than players competing against each other. The dealer qualification requirement of Queen or better adds a unique mechanic that affects how hands resolve.
